For diabetic patients, accidental needle sticking is a common affair. With The BD AutoShield Duo Pen Needle, that is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

BD has announced that The BD AutoShield Duo Pen Needle will now be available through retail pharmacies worldwide, during the American Association of Diabetes Educators Annual Meeting in Florida.

The BD AutoShield Duo Pen Needle is a pen needle that safely shields dually (with front and back shields) so that needle is covered, making accidental sticks impossible. The needle itself is guarded within a plastic sheath allowing it to be undetectable until it is ready to be used.

The AutoShield Needle has a front shield that covers the needle to help prevent the injection-related anxiety before and after the injection. It has been noted by pharmacists and prescribers alike that the less a person sees a needle, the less stress and anxiety they will have. The second shield works by covering the needle after the injection.

The BD AutoShield Pen is easier to use since it does not have a cap or an inner shield to be concerned about. Alongside the benefits of preventing accidental needle sticks, the AutoShield Pen also includes visual and audible features. The front shield lets out a clicking sound, which specifies that the needle has penetrated the skin and once the injection is finished, a red band will appear in the shield. The back shield covers the rear needle point when it is removed from the pen.

Ranjeet Banerjee, Worldwide President, BD Medical said, “Diabetes is a self-managed disease that requires constant monitoring and involvement to achieve personal goals. By simplifying the steps, BD AutoShield Duo pen needles can help make insulin injection easier, safer and more convenient than ever before. The US launch of the BD AutoShield Duo pen needle is the latest example of BD’s commitment to innovation to simplify the management of diabetes for people around the world.”
