What is Exubera and how can it help me with my diabetes? Exubera is a powder form of medication for those who suffer from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Since Exubera is a powder form of medication it is administered through the mouth while using and Exubera inhaler. This medication allows those with diabetes to manage their high blood sugar. For those with type II diabetes this medication can be used solely, or in combination diabetes pills, or longer-acting insulin. With those with type I diabetes Exubera is always used with longer-acting insulin. The benefit of using Exubera is that is fast acting. It works faster than regular injected insulin, and last the same amount of time. Exubera is basically mimics the insulin the human body makes naturally, only Exubera is manmade.
It's imperative to discuss your medical history as well as habits with your doctor before taking Exubera. If you smoke, are starting to smoke, or quit smoking recently then Exubera is not the medication for you. This is due to the fact that the act of smoking can increase the amount of medication you get and cause blood sugar levels to drop. If you fall into those three categories, you cannot take Exubera. Before and after taking Exubera it is required to have lung testing performed. If you are someone who suffers from chronic lung disease, or any type of lung disease, you shouldn't take this medicine.
There are other conditions that might contribute to whether or not Exubera is the diabetes treatment for you. If you are allergic to insulin or
Like almost all medications, there are possible side effects that may occur when taking Exubera. Some of these might include hypoglycemia. It is very important to know the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to treat it if it occurs. Contributing factors to a hypoglycemic reaction can be incorrect insulin dose, not eating enough, vomiting, diarrhea, alcohol consumption, interacting medication, and medical conditions. If you experience any of the symptoms associated with hypoglycemia you shouldn't drive or operate machinery. As with all diabetes treatments it is important to include exercise and a healthy diet to get the best combination of treatment. Other symptoms may cause a cough, dry mouth, or chest discomfort. It's also possible to have severe allergic reactions to any medicine. If you experience any of these, it is important to call your doctor and inform them of your condition.
